Daily Reflections by Stefan
Today we gathered in small group to listen to one person tell the story of hearing their life's call. It was a story that has ripened and is ready to be told. As we listened to the struggles, the moments of clarity and confusion, the desire to live from the heart's deep longing and purpose, it was clear we were on holy ground. And our shoes came off. What a great privilege and honor it is to listen to another's life story.
We worked with the question: What do I have? What have I been given? Sometimes it is clear. More often it takes a while to see the gift under the gift. Sometimes the heart's desire hides under fear and doubt just waiting to be gently invited into the clearing. One lovely image that emerged in the sharing was that of a woman carrying a child for the nine months while that child is being readied to be born. Our life calls can be like that. Trust, carrying, a little help from compassionate neighbors — and then — a new life is born! Again and again and again!
The scripture for today is the Gospel story of Jesus feeding the five thousand, and Acts:3 — the story of Peter and John at the Temple Gate called Beautiful.
Lost
by David Wagoner
Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.
